dulwich residence

adelaide south australia

the client vision for an original single-story bluestone villa, was to provide additional contemporary space for a young family, while remaining sympathetic to the existing character bluestone villa.

the result is a beautifully connected house that respects its surrounding environment, whilst enhancing the passive solar performance of both the old and new sections of the house. The design seamlessly allows for easy transition from indoors to the elegant outdoor living area and garden.

The functional brief was to provide additional space for a young family, to include the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the existing dwelling to provide a new main bathroom, powder room and laundry, and a new addition composed of open kitchen, dining and living with an ensuite, walk-in robe and separate, private entry from the driveway.

Internally, a natural palette of timber, raw stone and crisp white elements provide warm, light and relaxed internal spaces. The monochromatic tones are continued externally to complement but provide a modern interpretation of the traditional colour pallete.

The dramatic projection of the north-facing skillion roof provides a striking contemporary contrast to the existing character home, extending to the rear and wrapping down to subtly connect to ground, framing the rear elevation and seamlessly allowing for a flush transition from the modern galley style kitchen and living area into the elegant outdoor living area and garden.
