heritage advisory service

It all started when...

Douglas Alexander, Flightpath's Director, was appointed the first Heritage Advisor in South Australia in 1987.

Flightpath's reputation for heritage and historical conservation now precedes us, as Flightpath now  provides this service to nine metropolitan and regional Councils.

We are recognised as a leader in heritage architecture, with specialist expertise in building conservation, heritage assessment and conservation, adaptive re-use, heritage design advice and expert witness services.

conservation: re-invigorating historic structures for the community

Through preservation and reinvigoration of historic structures, for the community, Flightpath acknowledges the layers of history and enduring architectural and cultural qualities that cannot be replicated today.

By preserving important buildings, we recognise and protect the craftsmanship of previous generations, while creatively and sensitively providing for contemporary use, and respecting the needs of owners, users and government.

adaptive re-use: preserving character, transforming purpose

Adaptive re-use respects a building's original design when making alterations or additions for new uses. Flightpath Architects honour a site's past , while supporting the present and innovating for the future.

This requires achieving a practical balance between 'ideal' heritage outcomes and other project considerations such as budget, political context and compliance with regulations.

Our adaptive re-use projects can transform entire sites and neighbourhoods, breathing life into older buildings and creating vitality and renewed purpose.

heritage design advice

Flightpath is regularly called upon to provide specialist Heritage advice to individual clients, councils, consulting planners, developers, building designers as well as other architectural firms.

Our experience in interpreting and  applying the relevant legislation, assistance with negotiations and provision of focused design input, makes us the heritage 'go to' people.

We carefully consider the impact of proposed works on identified heritage places as well as their current and future cultural landscapes. This approach allows us to achieve quality outcomes for our clients.
