six contemporary dwellings were designed to meeet the changing expectations of independent living. The outcome has achieved a new modern build which sits comfortably within an established suburb of historic character
This infill development at Kensington Mews is an exciting response to a challenging brief. St Matthews Homes were seeking a contemporary addition to their existing portfolio of properties in Kensington. Eager to avoid a typical response to independent living dwellings, and acknowledging that the expectations of independent living units are changing, Flightpath were excited to help St Matthews work towards achieving an outcome which sits comfortably within an established suburb of historic character while introducing a new architectural language.
The six dwellings are located within a corner of the site set back from the street frontage and below street level. Glimpses of them are afforded from Maesbury Street. Several existing independent living dwellings and medium density housing surround the site. Flightpath worked to overcome various site challenges brought about by the natural topography and age of the site to provide a modern solution within tight constraints.
The outcome is one which sits comfortably within the existing fabric while introducing a new architectural language to the dwellings of St Matthews Homes.
