Our brief was to design a sustainable, ‘zero maintenance’ two-bedroom weekend retreat that ‘looks like a modest woolshed, with gable’ and a separate shed for cars and bikes.
Set in the picturesque surrounds of Mount Remarkable, this simple eloquent form politely nods at the Mount. A retreat for a mountain bike enthusiast to rest alone, with mates, or with the family, after a day on the trail.
A simple steel portal frame construction, maxline cladding wrapping down from the ridge and similar maxline clad end caps provide a simple yet distinct form, reminiscent of a neighbourhood shed. The internal is clad with a combination of plywood and plasterboard, with strategically placed windows to frame the views of Mount Remarkable. The floor plan has two distinct sides, living and sleeping, with the surprise being the mezzanine above the bedroom, which extends over the kitchen to form a bedroom above.
