Evolving our early involvement to assist Council apply for funding for the project, Flightpath undertook design development and documentation to refine the concept design of this addition to the Burra Bible Christian Chapel (fmr), as part of the Paxton’s Square Cottage state heritage place.
Conceived to provide improved amenity and provide additional services to the short-stay accommodation offered by the three rows of Cottages, the design provides for flexible function and exhibition space, either with or independent to the Chapel, serviced from common back-of-house facilities. Responding to its context, the design is complementary to the architectural form and expression of the significant features of the site, prevailing built-form and setbacks, its landscape and streetscape setting and, its outlook to Paxton’s Square and Burra Creek.
As part of this project, works to the affected portions of the Chapel will see significant fabric retained, conserved and integrated with the new addition and include stone replacement and re-pointing with lime-based mortars.
