refurbishment of the library comprising internal remodelling and roof replacement.
Flightpath have worked closely with Portland Library staff, users and the Glenelg Shire to develop a cost- effective refurbishment of the library comprising internal remodelling , refurbishment and roof replacement.
The refurbishment utilises the current footprint of a progressively built library and embraces some of its early features (constructed c1960 as part of the civic precinct), including timber frame skylights. Through relocation of existing functions and introduction of new, the existing building has been given a contemporary touch. New elements including a new youth space, window box seating and staff amenities are provided as well as replacement of internal linings and finishes.
A children’s area, featuring a climbing area and slide are also envisioned, divided off with glass sliding doors for noisier activities such as story time.
