walford anglican school for girls: reed house
Flightpath were engaged to prepare a scoping study to identify the extent of dilapidation and prepare a costed scope of conservation and other works to the local heritage listed Reed House, a former hospital and now the heart of the Walford Junior Campus.
In parallel to further research into the building and identification and grading of fabric of heritage value as recorded in the City of Unley Development Plan, the scoping study, with specialist consultant input, has enabled the investigation, identification and preliminary scope of conservation and new works, focussed upon the external presentation of the building to be prepared.
Following agreement of the scope of works, Flightpath, working closely with the School and consultant team, were then able to efficiently prepare detailed works documentation based on the agreed principles established through the scoping study. With close collaboration through construction with specialist contractors, the works, being administered by Flightpath, are nearing practical completion.
The project has involved reconstruction of the verandah (to contemporary structural standards) and substantial conservation of original cast-iron verandah columns, upgrade of a previous sanitary facilities addition and low-level stone re-pointing and local replacement.
